In coordination with Pierce County, the City of Puyallup is considering annexation of the Freeman Road area. This is a 134-acre unincorporated Pierce County area located at the northwest corner of the City, between Valley Avenue, Levee Road, and Freeman Road. The area abuts the City of Puyallup on the east and south sides, the City of Edgewood to the north, and the City of Fife to the west.
This area is an unincorporated "island" in Pierce County where future annexation to the respective abutting municipality is expected by the State Growth Management Act (GMA) and considered a high priority in regional planning policies. As an island, this area is challenging for the County to serve and is already receiving some services from the adjacent cities, yet is missing out on access to all services tailored for an urban environment such as membership to Puyallup's library, representation from the City Council, and Puyallup Police service to name a few.
On July 25, 2019, the City, in coordination with Pierce County, held a community meeting to provide information and take questions from property owners, residents, and interested parties in the potential annexation area. Staff from Pierce County and the Cities of Puyallup and Fife were able to answer questions about the benefits and impacts of annexation, future development potential, and planned transportation projects. If you were unable to attend the meeting or would like to review the materials provided, they are linked on the right-hand side of this page under “Related Documents”.
If you have any questions about the annexation process or would like to provide comments or input on this annexation, please contact Katie Baker, AICP, Senior Planner at (253) 435-3604 or email@example.com.
